Hebbal Lake



BANGALORE: Hebbal Lake. Location: North Bangalore, along Bellary Road. Area: Nearly 150 acre. History: It is a natural lake. It has a children's park, granite paving and seats, parking facilities, irrigation facilities fo plants, gazebos on the island at the centre of the lake, a donor's pavilion with names of contributors, one or two RCC bridges across the storm water drains entering the lake. Wheelchairs for the disabled and elderly, first aid, security facilities, a library and museum are in the offing. Status: The quality of water has improved a lot and the changes are visible from the main road itself. with facility for boating for the tourists and the residents of Bangalore.

Ulsoor Lake

This 1.5 sq. km lake is dotted with islands, extending over an area of 125 acres. The picturesque lake is located on the Northeastern fringes of the city and is an ideal place for boating and shopping. It is a major tourist attraction with a boat club, where one can hire out cruises with stops at some of the tiny islands that dot the lake.

History

It is said that Kempe Gowda founded Ulsoor, and tradition carries the story thus: The whole area was covered with forest, and Kempe Gowda came from Yelahankar chasing game, and was tired during the chase. While he rested under a tree, in his sleep the God Somesvara (who was supposedly worshipped earlier by the Mandava Rishi at this very spot), appeared to Kempe Gowda in a dream and revealed the existence of a hidden treasure. Kempe Gowda is supposed to have dug up the treasure and built the Somesvara pagoda, and was said to use the services of a sculptor from Belur, a descendant of the famous Jakanachari, to decorate the walls with scenes from the marriage of Siva and Paravati

Yediyur Lake

It is another beautiful lake in Bangalore which has unfortunately remained neglected. The distinguished feature of this lake is the sculpture of a girl by artist John Devaraj, situated right at the centre of the lake. The surroundings are also green and peaceful.

Established in 1971 the Banerghatta National Park of Bangalore comprises of the safari park with an herbivore safari, a lion safari, picnic corner, crocodile farm, pets corner, and a museum besides a park consisting of prehistoric animals. more.....
